Frequently asked questions

Question icon

Why use woven steel fencing?

Woven steel offers the ultimate in strong, weatherproof fencing. With posts every 600mm (instead of 1.8m typical of timber fencing), with flat bars woven around each post, it is engineer-approved for retaining walls. Even at 3m high, wind will pass through the fence, not blow it over, and plants can climb easily up the small gaps in the weave. Steel fencing needs zero maintenance but rusts naturally, improving the look of the fence over time as a beautiful and protective orange patina forms, providing an architecturally striking addition to any garden.

Question icon

How is woven steel fencing installed?

Every job is bespoke and assembled on site by hand. Mild steel posts are driven by hand into the ground every 600mm using a metal upright tube. Flat steel bars are then woven between the poles to the exact height and space required, then finished with a weld on every joint to create the strongest and most stable fencing on the market.

Question icon

How long does woven steel fencing take to rust?

We estimate about 12 months but the rusting process depends on location; if your property is by the coast it will rust much faster than inland. We are also able to accelerate the rusting process.

Question icon

Will the woven steel fencing not rust through eventually?

Our flat bars are 3mm wide which will take decades to corrode and your fence will just improve during that time. For extra peace of mind, our strong and durable fencing, retaining walls and steel edging come withe a 25-year guarantee.

Question icon

What height and shape can Rusti woven steel fencing take?

Everything we create is bespoke, beautifully detailed to fit each client's exact requirements. While a typical boundary fence is 2m, we can build Rusti fencing up to 3m or as little as 30cm, depending on your needs. Our steel fencing follows the contours of the land, whether your garden is flat or on a hillside, whether you need curves or even circular shapes, we can create the perfect boundary or retaining wall. Our steel edging and woven steel planters are made in exactly the same way.

Question icon

Why choose woven steel fencing over timber fencing?

Woven steel fencing is fire-proof, weatherproof and maintenance-proof. Steel fences won't shrink or expand with the seasons, it is multiple stronger than timber and faster to construct and our premium mild still requires zero maintenance (ever). We can curve, step and lower it gradually to trace the contours of your garden. By contrast, timber fencing panels are rigid, held between posts that are concreted into the ground. The panels create a sail in the wind that can blow over, and posts move as the ground shrinks and expands with the seasons. Timber fencing warps over time and needs regular, costly and time-consuming maintenance. Woven willow fences might look beautiful but they don't stand the test of time.
